Times Paradise: A Harmonious Blend of Tradition and Modernity

Integrating Suzhou's Water Culture into Contemporary Design

Times Paradise Presentation and Sales Centre, designed by David Chang, seamlessly combines the rich cultural heritage of Suzhou with modern design elements. This upscale real estate project, located in the CBD area of Suzhou, showcases the harmony between tradition and innovation.

The inspiration for Times Paradise stems from the city of Suzhou itself, known for its picturesque landscapes and cultural significance. The design team aimed to capture the essence of Suzhou's water culture and create a space that reflects the city's history and charm.

One of the standout features of the project is the use of grey wood grain marble, which serves as the background material. This elegant and modern texture complements the traditional white walls and black tiles, creating a unique and subtle aesthetic. The glass with a water wave pattern pays homage to Suzhou's waterways, while faux silk wall coverings and fabrics add a touch of richness and delicacy to the space.

The layout of Times Paradise is meticulously designed to evoke the essence of a Chinese garden. Straight and curved lines are used to create a concise structure, while the plum blossom shape, derived from Hui style architecture, is incorporated throughout the space. The reception area features intricately carved grilles with petal-shaped patterns, backed by grey mirrors to create a subtle play of light and enhance the overall elegance.

Despite the challenges faced during the design process, the team successfully emphasized the large windows of the building to showcase the beautiful exterior scenery. The window area was transformed into a bar lounge, offering a breathtaking view and creating a comfortable and casual atmosphere for visitors.

Times Paradise spans an impressive 888 square meters, with varying ceiling heights ranging from 3.4 to 8.4 meters. The project commenced in September 2013 and was completed in January 2014, firmly establishing itself as a prestigious real estate development in Suzhou.

David Chang Design Associates International, led by Chief Design Director David Chang, along with designers Pingping Jiang and Yue Zhang, meticulously researched the local culture and architecture of Suzhou. This extensive research allowed them to integrate elements of the city's natural environment and cultural heritage into the design, resulting in a unique and innovative space.

The Times Paradise Presentation and Sales Centre has garnered recognition for its exceptional design. In 2018, it was awarded the Iron A' Design Award in the Interior Space, Retail, and Exhibition Design category. This accolade acknowledges the project's well-designed, practical, and innovative approach, meeting professional and industrial requirements while contributing to a better world.

Times Paradise is a testament to the seamless fusion of tradition and modernity. By incorporating Suzhou's water culture and architectural heritage into contemporary design, David Chang has created a space that not only captivates the eye but also pays homage to the rich history of the city.
